It may not be street legal, but this is a great example of how renewable energy can be applied to a number of different industries. Wind powered car travels faster than the speed of the wind. The Blackbird wind powered vehicle successfully travelled at 2.01 times the speed of the wind, at new tests this year. Making the feat more impressive is the fact that that speed was driving into the wind. During previous tests in 2010, the vehicle travelled at 2.86 the speed of the wind with a tailwind. The car is basically a foam chassis attached to a wind turbine, which generates thrust to turn the wheels.
